The Ryobi RY404150

The Ryobi RY404150 is a cordless handheld blower that is appropriate for homeowners with home properties that are not too small or too large, often in the quarter- to half-acre range.

It is rated for a max air volume of 600 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and a max air speed of 100 MPH. This balance means the blower is suitable for light clearing across small yards, patios, driveways, or garden paths.

Featuring a 40V brushless motor, the unit provides cordless operation, allowing you to operate with great mobility. Two 4.0Ah batteries are provided with the unit, but only one can be used at a time. The unit can run up to 25 minutes, when using all the provided batteries.

Thanks to its 3 speed settings, the Ryobi RY404150 allows the user to adjust the air output to the task in hand.

Weighing 12.3 lbs as a bare tool and 15.2 lbs with the battery, the handheld design allows the operator to control airflow with one hand.

This blower can also be used as a vacuum, blowing leaves away or collecting them into a bag (10.5 gallon bag included). With its vacuum function engaged, this mulcher’s mulching ratio of 20:1 can condense 20 bags of leaves into a single bag of mulch while in use. The unit uses a metal impeller.

The Ryobi RY404150's performance versus other blowers

The following charts are provided to give you an idea how the key specs of the Ryobi RY404150 compare with handheld leaf blowers of similar voltage (between 36 and 48V).

Important: All figures are based on published specifications. Because manufacturers may test at different power levels or under different conditions, use the autonomy/runtime efficiency figures as a guideline only.
  • At 12.3 lbs (bare tool), the Ryobi RY404150 sits at the upper end of the weight range for cordless handheld blowers in the 36 to 48V range. To enjoy the lowest possible weight in this category, you could have a look at the Black+Decker LSW40C which is only 2.4 lbs the bare tool.
  • The air speed of the Ryobi RY404150 maxes out at 100 MPH. While more than adequate for many jobs, its air speed is below average among other battery-operated handheld blowers between 36 and 48V. For the fastest air speed in this category, you may want to consider the Husqvarna 350iB, which can expell air at a velocity that can reach 200 MPH.
  • The RY404150 is powerful, with an airflow rating of 600 CFM (cubic feet per minute). This is certainly on the high end compared to other cordless handheld blowers with a comparable voltage. If air volume is important to you, the Husqvarna 350iB, with 800 CFM, could be in your good books.
  • Autonomy-wise, with up to 25 minutes of autonomy on a full charge, the RY404150 is on the low end when compared with other cordless handheld units of similar voltage. To enjoy the best possible autonomy in this category, you could have a look at the Stihl BGA 200 which offers up to 535 minutes of runtime.
  • Because larger batteries naturally increase runtime, it can be helpful to consider runtime efficiency, a measure of how effectively a blower uses the energy available. The Ryobi RY404150 shows relatively low runtime efficiency, providing fewer minutes of operation for each unit of battery power. If you are focused on getting more use per charge, the Stihl BGA 50 offers the highest runtime efficiency, at 0.8 minutes per Wh.

Price comparison

As you can see from these interactive charts, when compared to other 36-48V cordless blowers, the Ryobi RY404150 is on the average side of the price range.

Therefore, this blower nicely fits in the expected budget for this kind of product.
