Description
Overview of the Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM®
- Power: The BR 800 X MAGNUM® gas-powered blower, manufactured by Stihl, is rated for a max air volume of 912 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and a max air speed of 239 MPH.
- Handling: By design, this model isn’t the smallest leaf blower on the market. It’s meant to be carried as a backpack so that the bulk of the unit is out of the way and the user’s hands are free to manipulate the nozzle. Its throttle is located on the tube, which allows you to keep your left hand free. At 23 lbs, the Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM® is within the average weight range of gas-powered backpack blowers.
- Engine: This blower is fitted with a 79.9cc 4-Mix engine. Stihl's 4-Mix engine is a 4-stroke engine that runs with a mixture of oil and gas (50:1 ratio). You can find more details about this technology further down the page.
- Speed Settings: For those who wish to have complete control while operating their leaf blower, the BR 800 X MAGNUM® offers variable speed settings, and moreover, is also equipped with cruise control, which allows the user to comfortably continue blowing at their preferred setting.
- Noise: With a decibel rating of 78 dB, the BR 800 X MAGNUM® is neither louder nor quieter than its rivals in the gas-powered backpack category.
- Fuel Tank: With a capacity of 67.6 fl. oz., this Stihl blower is average compared to other gas backpack blowers.

The Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM®'s performance versus other blowers
The following charts are provided to give you an idea how the key specs of the Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM® compare with similar leaf blowers.
- Forced air exiting this blower has been clocked at a max speed of 239 MPH. This puts the BR 800 X MAGNUM® ahead of the pack as far as air speed is concerned in gas-powered backpack blowers. If you wish to benefit from air expelled at the fastest possible speed, the Husqvarna 150BT and its 270 MPH could be an option to consider.
- Regarding its air volume, the Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM® boasts an impressive airflow that can reach 912 CFM (Cubic Foot per Minute). This places it amongst the most powerful gas-powered backpack blowers. If air volume is important to you, the Echo PB-9010T, with 1110 CFM, could be in your good books.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other gas backpack blowers, the Stihl BR 800 X MAGNUM® is on the expensive side of the price range.
While certainly not the cheapest of its kind, purchasing it could most likely also mean enjoying the reliability of a high-end product.
4-Mix Engine Technology
Stihl's 4-Mix engine combines the advantages of 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines. This award-winning 4-stroke engine runs on a mix of gasoline and oil (1:50). For this to happen, the gasoline-oil mix enters the cylinder head through a bypass channel in order to offer full lubrication, which avoids the need for parts like an oil pump, sump or tank (which are compulsory for traditional 4-stroke engines). Therefore, there is no oil servicing to do (easy maintenance), the leaf blower is lighter (due to fewer parts) and its overall noise is lower. Additionally, all 4-MIX engines are fitted with a system that considerably reduces the effort needed to pull the starter rope.
The bottom line
- Cruise control
- 4-Mix Engine
- High CFM (912 CFM)
- High MPH (239 MPH)
- Decent weight (23 lbs)
- Decent tank (67.6 fl. oz.)
- Acceptable noise (78 dB)
- On the expensive side

Bought mine in November. It’s March now it’s in the shop tore apart, waiting on parts maybe just get the runaround from customer support and tech. It never ran right right from the start. One run around after the other warranty is nonexistent would never buy another Stihl
Not a great carburetor for cold Canadian winter usage. Maybe fine on milder climates. Moved a lot of snow when running at peak rpm but weather will affect the carburetor performance and rpm’s may drop while in use due to fuel mixture not quite right for -30°C or colder air temperatures. Have to retune the carburetor for different ambient temperatures which is irksome to maintain peak performance. Only used it in the winter following factory storage instructions for the summer. Carburetor likely works well in milder climates like I’m Germany and the USA but falters in performance in Canadian Winters when weather changes can be 20°C or more from one day to the next in the winter. Otherwise a nice machine the 800X.
The BR 800 is a mighty machine. It is well-designed with high-quality craftsmanship. It comes on quickly and is very easy to use it.
I love STIHL BR 800 X MAGNUM High Quality I have used STIHL products for years
The weight of the blower is well distributed and being 2-3 pounds lighter than other similar backpacks means my wife or I can use it easily for an hour on several acres we maintain. It can blow 2″ gravel like its sand and deep leaves go 20 feet. We will never need to rake again. I didnt know about the 4 stroke until now, its very light and grunts, meaning you can set 20% throttle and tap the trigger when you need the boost. that makes it more quiet and not having the high pitch 2stroke whine. its VERY well thought out. it is thirstier than our 15hp mower per hour, but that means its even lighter, burning off the fuel. Im very very happy with ours. didnt have trouble starting it. It does use 89+ octane with mix, and it has a winter slide under the air filter that we will need to use if there is snow to blow. Again, @240mph, and 912cfm we will never touch a shovel again. it can lift an 8″ round, 2″ thick rock and move it away at full throttle. Stihl quality is worth the price. dont stop part of the way there. and it has residual value too if you sell your property.
Got one in February 2019,only used it for about 4 month as I do not need it in the Summer, had always problem starting, needed at least 6 to 8 pulls and when it was cold up to 20 pulls, had it in the shop 3 times when they put on a new carburetor, still under warranty, helped some what, still problems starting, and now the recoil broke.Don’t think I by another Stihl ,maybe try some other brands.I do not recommend this one. However,it does have great power.
