Description
Overview of the Troy-Bilt TB400
- Power: The Troy-Bilt TB400 is a gas-powered blower with a maximum air volume rating of 400 cubic feet per minute (CFM) and an air speed of 180 MPH.
- Handling: For those who are looking for a portable and convenient leaf blower, this model is a strong candidate. It’s designed for easy handling and use, and its size means it’s easily carried and stored. All told, it weighs 10 lbs — the Troy-Bilt TB400 is neither the lightest nor the heaviest gas-powered handheld blower on the market.
- Engine: This blower's engine has a displacement specification of 25 cc. Since this is a 2-stroke engine, it’s important to remember that the TB400 cannot run on gasoline alone. The fuel must be mixed with an appropriate ratio of gasoline and oil in order for it to function properly (for this Troy-Bilt model, this ratio is 40:1).
- Speed Settings: Sometimes you just need a little more power, while other times you may want a little more precision when moving leaves and debris. That’s why the TB400 features variable speed settings for added control.
- Noise: As far as gas-powered handheld blowers go, this one is average in terms of noise with a rating of 73 dB.
- Fuel Tank: With a capacity of 14 fl. oz., this Troy-Bilt blower is average compared to other gas handheld blowers.
- SpringAssist™: The Troy-Bilt TB400 benefits from the proprietary SpringAssist™ starting system. This system allows the operator to start the leaf blower with a slow and steady pull on the starter rope, which greatly reduces the pulling effort needed.
The Troy-Bilt TB400's performance versus other blowers
The following charts are provided to give you an idea how the key specs of the Troy-Bilt TB400 compare with similar leaf blowers.
- Upon exiting the nozzle, the air can reach speeds of up to 180 MPH, which is pretty much what is to be expected for gas-powered handheld blowers. If you wish to benefit from air expelled at the fastest possible speed, the Craftsman BV2500 and its 250 MPH could be an option to consider.
- As this unit is rated at 400 CFM (cubic feet per minute), it expells less air than most gas-powered handheld blowers. For the highest air volume, you may want to have a look at the Craftsman B225, which boasts with 650 CFM.
Price comparison
As you can see from this interactive chart, when compared to other gas handheld blowers, the Troy-Bilt TB400 is on the cheap side of the price range.
It can therefore be a really good buy if you're looking to acquire a budget blower.
The bottom line

- SpringAssist™ technology
- Decent weight (10 lbs)
- Decent tank (14 fl. oz.)
- Acceptable noise (73 dB)

Questions & Answers

I bought this TB400 in May of this year. I have used it a total of five hours. Starting this device is fairly simplistic and straight forward. At about the five hour use mark, at the next intended use, the pull cord had already frayed and broke from the fly wheel, negating any future use until the pull cord can be replaced.
From the Troy Bilt web, supply chain issues might delay the delivery of this part to the place of original purchase for the anticipated warranty replacement work to be done.
Not a Happy camper, since Troy Bilt was rated above other like devices from other companies.
I just got this leaf blower, I like it. I already have a Husqvarna leaf blower but wanted a blower for our vacation home. Comparing this Troy-Bilt TB400 to my Husqvarna: The Husqvarna is a bit lighter (9.6 lbs vs 10 lbs) and a wee bit quieter but cost $149 compared to the Troy-Bilt at $90. The Troy-Bilt has plenty of blowing power, starts easy so I would say it’s a great value.
