Feel, Fuel & Noise

Belonging to the line of Stihl blowers, both the BR 500 and the BR 600 should have a shared standard of manufacturing and attention to detail.

  • Engineered as backpack blowers, these two products feature sizeable engines and large fuel tanks, ensuring comfortable carrying during operation. You'll find the throttle positioned on the tube of both products, ensuring that your left hand remains unoccupied for other activities.
  • Both products are gas-powered blowers - gas is a reliable power source which you can refill in a matter of seconds, offering you the freedom of movement to tackle larger outdoor spaces with ease.
  • At 22.5 lbs compared with 22.3 lbs for the Stihl BR 600, the weight difference is minimal, so either option should feel nearly the same in day-to-day use.
  • With a noise rating of 75 dB, the Stihl BR 600 exceeds the 65 dB rating of the Stihl BR 500. Consequently, selecting the Stihl BR 500 might ensure a more peaceful atmosphere for both you and your neighbors.

CFM & MPH

  • When compared, the Stihl BR 600 demonstrates a CFM of 677, surpassing the 544 CFM of the Stihl BR 500, establishing it as the more powerful tool for swiftly clearing leaves from your yard.
  • The MPH of the Stihl BR 600, at 238, modestly exceeds the 208 MPH of the Stihl BR 500, allowing it to blow leaves on grass or lift heavy debris (acorns, etc.) and wet leaves more effectively.

Engine specs

  • Both devices have an identical fuel tank size of 47.3 fl.oz. They will therefore require you to refill them at roughly same rates.
  • These two products share an engine displacement of 64.8 cc, suggesting they might consume comparable amounts of fuel per stroke, potentially resulting in similar performance outputs. The leaf blowers have a 4-stroke engine. Both feature a Stihl 4-Mix engine design though, and therefore require an oil/fuel mix.

Other features

  • With no leaf vacuuming functionality in either the Stihl BR 500 or the Stihl BR 600, you'll have to find another way to gather leaves.

  1. So can’t I tweak my 500 to have a higher rpm?

    • I replaced the carb, muffler, ignition coil, blower fan, and can hear it off my perfectly good running br600 that I ran over. The blower fan change required me to change the main housing as well to accommodate the br600 fan. Never changed the muffled tube which keeps it a tiny bit quieter. It was basically like putting a new engine on my 600. Same rpm and output now. Sorry of that I found the 500 unimpressive after using my 600 for years. Just get the 600 for the price difference.

  2. If the engines are identical, how does the 600 have higher performance? Different blower fan? Housing? Timing? ???
